Sometimes you just need to see a process mapped out on paper to get your head around exactly how it works. That’s how I felt after reading Josh Goodrich’s Responsive Coaching. There was so much great information there, but I couldn’t quite visualize a cycle as a whole.
So, I put together a graphic of the coaching cycle (that’s it below). In the beginning, it was a tool that helped me engage more fully with Josh’s rich work, and as my thinking around coaching cycles has evolved, I’ve continued to update it so it reflects my current practice with teachers.
Turns out, this coaching cycle handout has been as helpful for the teachers I coach as it has been for me. I often use it as the center of discussion when I’m kicking off a new coaching cycle, and we continue to refer to it throughout the process so we stay focused and on track. (And it’s a great reminder to unpack key aspects of the coaching cycle like video and the power of rehearsal!)
I hope you find it as useful in your coaching practice as I have.
